Expectant Mums Programme

Also available with Independent Outreach Work.

  Register with a GP and / or have an appointment with GP to confirm pregnancy and be referred to the hospital.

  Discussion with GP regarding support groups and clinics which are held at surgery.

  Locate nearest Anti-Natal classes and encourage young person to attend.

  Knowledge of other resources for young mums to be / young mums in local area.

  Knowledge of healthy eating and possible health risks e.g. diabetes, low iron…etc.

  Information on counseling services…i.e., drugs and alcohol.

  Advice on exercise…e.g., swimming as an activity.

  Information and advice on finances – Grants, Milk tokens, bounty packs, maternity clothes, charities, magazine subscriptions…etc.

  Preparing for the birth – What to take to the hospital, transport to hospital, what happens when you arrive at the hospital, support in the delivery room…etc.

  When the baby arrives – records are made and kept with sex, weight, blood group and name.

  Registering the birth of the baby.

  Mother and baby's health after the birth.

  Role of the midwife.

  Role of the health Visitor.

  Post-Natal depression.
